Independent contractors
Workers on Rush are independent contractors of the businesses they work shifts for — not employees of Rush. Workers choose their own shifts, set their own availability, may work anywhere (including competitors), and can be hired directly by any business at any time with no conversion fee. Earnings are reported on the applicable IRS form on a gross basis; workers are responsible for their own taxes.
Payments & fees
Businesses pay the posted wage plus a Rush platform fee — 15% for founding accounts (first 25 businesses, locked through August 15, 2027) and 20% standard — with a $5 minimum per worker per shift. Workers keep 95% of the posted wage (a 5% service fee funds the platform), shown before accepting every shift. Earnings for a Monday–Sunday week are paid the following Friday, free; optional Fast Pay moves settled earnings instantly for a flat $2.99. No surge pricing, ever.
Cancellations
Workers can release a confirmed shift up to 4 hours before start so the waitlist can backfill. If a business cancels a confirmed worker 2–12 hours before start it pays that worker 25% of the full shift wage; under 2 hours (or if the business doesn't open), 50% — passed through 100% to the worker.
Reliability
Every worker has a reliability score — it starts at 70, ranges 0–100, and measures attendance only, on published, deterministic rules. Businesses see the score and decide who to book; Rush never restricts a worker based on it. Workers below 70 can repair their score with in-app policy quizzes.
Keeping work on Rush
For work arranged through Rush, both sides agree not to take the relationship off-platform (6 months for workers, 12 months for businesses; $1,000 liquidated damages per violation). Direct W-2 hiring is always free and exempt.
Privacy
Financial data (SSN, bank credentials) is collected and held by Stripe — Rush receives only tokenized references and verification status. Location is captured only around shift check-in and check-out, never in the background. Rush does not sell personal information. Full retention periods are in the Privacy Policy.
